On the 10th and 11th of January the BigDataOcean kickoff meeting was held at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece in snowy conditions. All project’s partners attended the meeting, approximately twenty-five participants in total from six different countries.
On the first day, after a short round of introductions where each partner presented an overview of their role in the project, the project’s pilots presentations took place. Each pilot partner presented their use case scenario and expectations regarding their BigDataOcean project participation. In the afternoon, each work package leader presented the tasks that must be addressed and their views regarding the way to tackle the challenges. The day ended with a beautiful view of Acropolis at a nicely organized social event in the center of Athens.
The following day started with presentations of tools and frameworks, followed by a round table discussion regarding relevant technologies. The meeting addressed work packages related to design and implementation of the web platform from a technical point of view. In the afternoon, work packages related to the exploitation and communication activities of the project were discussed.
During the kickoff meeting, consortium partners were able to discuss their expectations from the project, understand the management structure and agree on critical milestones. Lastly, they agreed on the project’s short term action plan and renewed their meeting for April. The meeting ended with everyone’s wishes for a nice and productive collaboration.
