This week saw more than 6,000 visitors from around the world descend on Vienna, Austria, for ICT 18, a huge research and innovation event focused on the European Union’s priorities in the digital transformation of society and industry. ICT 18 has been the ideal event that boosted BDO visibility
BigDataOcean had a strong presence there with representatives from six different partners (NTUA, MarineTraffic, HCMR, ISMB, UBITECH, UNINOVA). BDO consortium members had the oppportunity to meet with several hundreds of visitors at the project’s exhibition booth. Dr. Spiros Mouzakitis, project’s technical manager, together with the rest of the consortium members had the chance to highlight the challenges and the objectives of the project, give a brief description of its key achievements and explain how the platform will assist maritime stakeholders to perform Big Data Analytics.
Discussions were about the project’s platform and its services and the project’s offerings were received with high interest from the booth’s visitors, which were further engaged to evaluate the platform and provide useful feedback to the consortium. Finally, the exhibition booth enabled BDO to reinforce the synergies with other projects active in the digital transformation of the mobility domain.
Radio interviews, twitter videos and TV interviews are just some examples of the activities that BDO members did to maximise the project’s audience. During the 1st day of the event Spiros had the chance to promote the platform and its offered services in a short radio interview with ORF. A twitter video from EU Data Economy enabled BDO to promote project’s potentials to address key questions of the maritime industry such as how data can be used to enhance maritime security and detect threats at sea, or how can we reduce the oil spill impact to the environment. In addition the BDO partners had a great opportunity to showcase how Big Data can make seaborne transportation greener, smarter, and more secure during a TV interview.
